This isn’t merely about keeping information secret for its own sake, but rather a belief that certain truths about reality are not accessible through ordinary means. This knowledge is often esoteric, meaning it is intended for and likely understood by only a small number of people with specialized knowledge or interest. It is transmitted through lineages of initiates, carefully guarded texts, and symbolic languages that require interpretation and decoding. This secrecy also stems from the belief that such knowledge can be dangerous in the wrong hands, or that its power is diminished if revealed to the uninitiated.
